Homework for 2-13

In Math today, we learned a method of counting numbers called the Function Machine. Here is a picture of it.

Imagine a machie with a funnel on the top an a tube at the bottom - we call this a function machine. When you drop a number into the funnel at the top, the machine changes the number according to the rule and a new number comes out.
This works two ways:

1. You have to find out the rule.
If the numbers are
In       Out
6          7
8           9

You can figure out that the rule is +1

Another is if the rule is already stated such as +10
            In        Out
20
55

You have to find out the correct numbers that is coming out.

Please email me if you have any questions about the homework!!

Changes for 3rd Quarter

This year is sure flying by! Because we have entered into the 3rd quarter, I would like to let you know of some changes we have made in our first grade classroom.

1. Coupon system
Starting in November, I have started a reading log to ensure that students are reading their library books at home. I have been assigning the Reading Log for only Monday and Tuesday nights. As a reward to get them to read, I have offered the students coupons after reading 10 days for their homework. I have been keeping track and we have finally hit 10 times. The first group of students received their coupons this week. Here are the coupons they may receive:

Use a pen: When they turn in this coupon, they may use a pen on ONE assignment in class.
Show and Tell: Students may bring one item and show off the item to their friends at the end of the day.  They must show their friends and tell everyone about what it is. The item must be kept in their backpack until Show and Tell time.
Sit with a buddy: When turning in this coupon, the student may move their chair to sit near a friend for 1 hour.
Positive Note to Parents: When using this coupon, I will write a note to their parent telling them how good they are doing in school.
Wear a Hat: They get to wear a hat all day to school.
Bring a Stuffed Animal: Students may bring and carry around a stuffed animal all day to school.
Choose your job: Students may choose for the day a specific job they would like to do, for example line-leader, or Teacher's Helper.
Play Live Mathletics: During our computer time, students may play the live Mathletics game instead of their usual activities.
No Homework pass: By presenting this coupon, the student doesn't have to do one nights worth of homework.

2. Behavior system:
In our current behavior system with the "feet"being moved to different sandals such as Timeout, and 5 minutes off of recess has been fairly effective, there is no way to reward the students who are going above and beyond in their behavior. Therefore, I have made a new pocket which is a beach scene. If I see a student going above and beyond what they are supposed to do, I will tell them to move their feet to the Beach. When they do so, they will get a fun sticker on their Feet Calendar, as well as 10 stickers will let them choose from the coupons. So please look out for the stickers on their behavior calendar and congratulate them if they have a sticker for the day.

Bazaar - CHANGE

Hello everybody! I hope you had a nice day off of school. I was busy getting the report cards done! :)

I contacted the person with the ponies and unfortunately, the ponies are getting old and can't be ridden... SO we have a new booth for Bazaar - Coffee and Baked Goods

This will be a little more hard work but I know we can do it!

Here is how I need your help:

We need to start collecting items for the booth including

  • cake mixes (different kinds)
  • frosting (different flavors)
  • sprinkles
  • coffee to be used in a coffee pot
  • cups for coffee
  • variety of tea
  • sugar
  • cute bags to package the cakes/muffins in
  • spoons
  • forks
  • plates
  • napkins
  • coffee machine(s)
  • hot water pot
  • tablecloths
  • basket for the tea choices
  • disposable baking pans

Also, close to the Bazaar day we will need to collect:
  • eggs
  • milk
  • cream
  • oil
  • maybe whip cream

Because of certain health codes, we have to make all the baked goods at the school. We will be baking on Thursday March 14, and Friday March 15th after school. If you would like to help at that, please let us know!

We will also need parents to help on the Bazaar day selling the Baked Goods and the Coffee and tea. You can sign up for an hour or two to work on that day. I am very excited for the Bazaar and I think it will be a lot of fun.

Thank you!!!!
