Friday News for the Week of April 9-13

Happy Friday! Today was a bitter sweet day because we said good bye to our sweet Lucy. She and her family will be moving to the States. We will miss her a TON but we are excited for their new adventure in the States. We love you Lucy!!!

Can you believe we are in the 4th quarter? EEK! There is only like 5 more weeks of school left! Last stretch! Report Cards were sent home on Thursday. Please review it, keep all the papers inside and return the blue envelope signed at the “3rd quarter” line.

This Week:

Reading - We read through all of Harry Allard books about Miss Nelson. Those books are just so great!

We also practiced a very important accuracy strategy of Flip the Sound. If a word sounds funny, it’s an important strategy for the students to flip the vowel sounds or some of the consonant sounds which will probably help them figure out the word!

Math: We started a new unit on Measuring. We compared measurements with words such as “short” “shorter” and “shortest” and we also used cubes and other objects as unit of measurement. The students really enjoyed walking around the room and measuring everything they saw!

Writing: We finished the Fairy Tale writing units!! I complied all the students stories into a book and read it aloud to the students today. I’m so proud of them for writing their own stories!

Bible: After Spring Break, we returned to the story of Solomon, King David’s son. God asked Solomon what he would like and Solomon asked for wisdom! Not money, or fame, or a long life! God was so pleased with his answer that he gave him wisdom AND all the other things! Solomon also build the temple for God. It took 7 years and he used the finest materials to finally make a dwelling place for God in Israel. Today we learned the story of when Queen Sheba came to visit Solomon to see if he was for real! He surpassed all of her expectations and she went away amazed at Solomon! We talked about the importance of wisdom and how we need to ask God daily for wisdom in our own lived.

Social Studies - We are gearing up for Kid City! We have learned about the Post Office, Fire Station, Store, Restaurant, Library, Bank, City Hall, Police Station, Hospital and we have one more to learn for next week - the Vet! THEN FRIDAY IS KID CITY!! WOOHOO!!

I also moved the desks around for the last quarter!

Next Week:

Spelling Words: hurt, verse, fern, dirt, burn, first, bird, turn, her girl, great, again, who
Bible Memory Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
